| About Pushkar Fair Location : Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan (India) Pushkar Fair Date : 5 Nov. to 13 Nov. 2008 Climate and Best Time to Visit : Climate and Best Time to Visit: The maximum temperature during the summers can go up to 40-45°C while in the winters it can be below 10°C. The best season to visit this place is during the winters (October to March). The annual Pushkar mela (fair) will last for about a week. This is the time when the small holy town, set at the edge of the desert in the Western State of Rajasthan sees its population grow to hundreds of thousands within days. The camel and cattle fair also attracts pilgrims who come to visit the Brahma Temple and bathe in the holy Pushkar lake for the Kartik Purnima (full moon) Every year on the Full Moon of Kartik Poornima almost 200,000 people drove to Pushkar from different parts of the country bringing with them 50,000 herd of cattle’s, camel racing and kaleidoscopic festivities that goes for several days. It is a fair of colors, cloths, camels and cattle’s. Besides marketing of horses, camels, cows and bulls, there are exhilarating camel-cart races and cultural events. The camels are festooned with ornaments and delightful colors. The race is cherished by thousands of visitors coming from all over the world. Pushkar is a sacred town for the Hindus, situated 11 kms. (7 miles) to the North-West of Ajmer. By Air :- Jaipur, the nearest airport is 138 kms. (86 miles). By Rail :- Ajmer is connected to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Abu Road and Jodhpur by regular trains. Two of the best trains of the Indian Railways, Pink City Express and Shatabdi Express connect Ajmer to Delhi and Jaipur. By Road:- A dense network of bus service operates from Ajmer to key destinations around. Distances from important tourist centres are: - Jaipur: 138 kms. (86 miles), Delhi: 392 kms.
